What to expect

You depart from Cap Cana marina or a Bavaro beach pier early in the morning. The boat heads to deep water (about 30 minutes offshore) where the captain finds schools of fish using sonar. Trolling is the main technique. On a good day, you can catch 3-5 fish in a half-day trip.

Tips

  • Take motion sickness medication if you are prone to seasickness
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
  • Ask about keeping your catch, some boats will fillet it for you
  • Tip the captain and crew (15-20% is standard)
  • Morning departures have calmer seas than afternoon
