Bavaro Beach
The main beach strip in Punta Cana. Protected by an offshore reef, the water is calm, warm, and shallow for dozens of meters. Palm trees line the shore and most resorts face this beach. The downside: it can get crowded near the resort areas. Walk 5 minutes in either direction to find quieter stretches.
Macao Beach
The most naturally beautiful beach in the area. A wide stretch of golden sand with no resorts blocking the view. The waves are bigger here, making it popular for surfing and boogie boarding. Completely free and public, with local vendors selling coconuts and food. About 25 minutes from Bavaro.
Juanillo Beach
In the exclusive Cap Cana community. Pristine white sand, turquoise water, and very few people. Access is through the Cap Cana gate (tell them you are going to the public beach). Restaurants and lounges available, but bring cash.
